Work and real life kind of took over and I’ve not had chance to get back into deep learning for a while. The best “answer” I found was from this post: An Attempt to Find the Right Hidden Layer Size for Your Tabular Learner , but there is very definitely an element of trial and error still. It really does depend on your data set.
