Hi @marktaylor, apologies for the slow response (I’m no longer working on Salamander fulltime). AWS lowered the rate limit for two endpoints a week ago, and Salamander didn’t handle these new constraints correctly. Some servers became stuck while shutting down during this period, but it’s fixed now. Sorry about the credit kerfuffle. If you hadn’t deleted your account, Salamander would have automatically fixed the issue & replenished your credits today.
Hi, I recall destroying my instance a while back but now I’m being asked to pay for storage. I’m just wondering what’s going on? Please advice.
@radikubwa i’m not fussed about smaller amounts. but yeah, Salamander now deletes accounts automatically if there’s unpaid storage fees after one week without action. if you don’t need your Salamander account anymore there’s nothing you need to do
Thanks for the clarification.
Hi,
I am trying to start jupyter notebook on Salamandar. I get the message:
’ xargs: jupyter: No such file or directory
and jupyter notebook does not open once the server starts. I have been having issues the whole day today in getting jupyter notebook started on the server.
Please help. Using email: bhat.rajeshbhat@gmail.com on salamandar.
@Rajesh1 looks like something that’d take me a couple hours to investigate & fix, but i unfortunately don’t have the time. i’d be happy to look if >= 3 people report this. otherwise, i recommend creating a brand new server & copying the files you need across via SSH (you should be able to find a good guide via Google)
Can you provide a detailed guide for howto get free credit for students at salamander? I opened AWS educate but have no coupon code and in general the process is unclear
Hello! I’ve just signed up for Salamander but the tutorial instructions do not work, specifically at the terminal section.
I opened the course-v3 folder in Jupyter, selected New --> Terminal, then performed the source activate fastai
command with the resulting error:
ubuntu@ip-:~$ source activate fastai
Could not find conda environment: fastai
You can list all discoverable environments with `conda info --envs`.
I’d appreciate any assistance. Thanks!
EDIT:
The instructions from crestle.ai worked. Looks like the salamander instructions need to be updated. Here’s what I used instead of the terminal commands in the salamander guide:
conda update conda
conda install -c fastai fastai
is this the tutorial on course.fastai.com? i’ll try doing an update today
e: i’m no longer contributing code to Salamander. won’t get around to updating the tutorial myself, but i expect someone at fastai will take a look soon
Yes, it’s from course.fastai.com.
Hi,
My server has been stuck on “Offline - bidding on servers” for more than a day. I tried emailing support but haven’t gotten any reponse! I would kill my server but I had some work on there and credit left on my account that I don’t want to waste. Can anyone help?
@ashtonsix if you’re not contributing does that mean Salamander is not recommended anymore? I started fast.ai today and used the setup for a good first half of the day. At one point the server turned off and now I’m waiting for bidding for an hour. Should we put a note somewhere saying not to use it?
@KristerV Similar thing happened to me and waiting for a resolution. Annoying because there is actual money on the account so even the option of deleting and starting over is throwing away money. I’m going to stay away and use other platforms for future work.
I came here to say this. Status for Salamander service stuck at ‘Offline- bidding on servers’ for a couple of hours. I am waiting for a resolution.
Also not to forget, Ashton has done a great job on Salamander- making affordable and fully configured gpu infra available for Fastai students. Much appreciated.
i’m not contributing to Salamander bc it’s now owned by fastai who are maintaining Salamander themselves. we’re partway through moving infrastructure across - which may be the source of instability reported over the last day
My machine is stuck. It wont start, it wont stop. Currently it has wasted about $150 of my money and now it is has actually gone negitive in value. I have sent you multiple emails today, I can’t afford to just throw away $150 because of a buggy interface and I absolutely wont be paying off any debt. Currently it is costing $10 an hour to just sit there in limbo. I neeeed the server shut down and the money credited back in to my account.
Now I am getting emails and it is trying to just take money out of the card. This is out of control.
@RobinGraham I counted my losses and deleted my account so that it didn’t continue to drain funds but I was on the cheaper compute so I only lost about $2 and about an hour’s worth of work. I feel for you. =(
yeah overnight the server ended up “stopped”, but it also took $10 out of my account - not okay. deleting account and counting losses. @jeremy please help these people.
Many apologies I’ll look into this now.
