Hi Ruben,
I am using a 1V100.6V instance, and I just found out now that the hibernate feature is currently disabled. Any idea when this feature will be available again?
Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,
We are working on development of the next iteration of hibernation. It will be nearly instantaneous to hibernate and a matter of a few minutes to restore images. The change required an entirely different way of how storage is handled and will resolve several issues at once.
In the meantime, users could zip their data and send to a google drive/S3 or download via using a tool like MobaXterm. We hope to start rolling out hibernation again later this month.
Hi @DataCrunch ā¦
Iām wondering if I could deploy a FastAPI application and use one of these instances purely for inference?
Also, what is this āhibernation settingā I see folks talking about.
Thanks - wg
Hi!
Thatās definitely possible. We are also working on lower cost options for long term rentals mainly for that purpose.
Hibernation is what we put in place to allow users to stop their server and only get charged storage cost, the data was moved to a storage volume. The operation was slow and led to some issues. We are switching over to a networked NVMe storage cluster which will make it much easier to hibernate/clone/create custom images etc.
Hi Ruben!
Will the new hibernation feature save linuxspecific installation and user accounts, firewall setup etc from starting an instance to the other?
Hi Oscar,
Yes, it will be very similar to physically disconnecting a hard drive and plugging it in elsewhere later when restoring. The old system had to copy your instance which is why it was much slower.
Hi there.
Coming back to this course after a long absence, and trying to set up a datacrunch instance. I see that the recommended 1V100.6V are unavailable whenever I try using them. Will the custom FastAI image be available and work out of the box on the next server version (2V100.10V)?
Also, is the hibernation option fully implemented yet? i.e.if I want to be able to easily return to an instance after shutting it down, can I do that, or do I need to go for the long-term rental?
Hi! Apologies for the late response, I overlooked your message.
Any instance will run the fastai image, the fastbook notebooks wonāt run on multiple GPUs out of the box though.
Hibernation is fully functional! A lot has changed since we last posted here.
Thanks, Ruben
As you can tell, I havenāt been here a while. Forced to put this aside, coming back to it now.
I see the course is using Kaggle now, Iām going to try that before returning to trying to run a machine image. Will come back to the site once itās more relveant.
