Mini-batch vs batch clarification

Hi all,

I’m a little confused about the differences between a batch and a mini-batch. Are they used interchangeably? The textbook’s wording tends to flip-flop a bit between the two. If they aren’t, does batch_size and one_batch refer to the mini-batch size and one mini-batch?

Interesting question! I get confused with this too! My feeling is that in the fast.ai context, bs or batchsize means “minibatch”?

Here is an entry I found on this topic. I think batch/mini-batch are sometimes used interchangeably though they may have specific meanings (technically speaking.)

In the case of fastai and most cases I’ve seen, yes. Batch = mini batch
