I’ve just added support for footnotes to this forum, which use this format:

We are our choices. [^sartre]

A lot of interesting words

He really said it. [^sartre]

[^sartre]: We are our choices.
Sartre, some time
some day
in the past

Here’s how that displays:

A lot of interesting words

He really said it. [1:1]
