I have the same issue on lesson 1. For me this was the disabled internet connection, but now I run in even more errors, I think this notebook does not work anymore in late 2025.
Kind of a dumb question even for the Beginner Thread I guess but primarily due to timing.
My old laptop from 2015 is fried and not of much use anymore so was planning to buy a new one.
Couple of questions
- If I am planning to run my notebooks on Colab or Paperspace anyway, how critical is the configuration of the laptop? Does it still need to have Graphics Card, GPU, good CPU etc or is that completely irrelevant?
- If I intend to install an Ubuntu Machine on a Windows Laptop, what kind of a configuration should I look at?
@venky_rege
As a beginner, just use Colab, Kaggle and another free GPU compue you can get hold of.
You will spend forever time in finding a βperfectβ new laptop and configure it. To be honest, for me it is a painful process. They almost killed all the joy in learning deep learning.
You maybe able to use SolveIt with a small monthly payment. SolveIt can provide the compute and become your personal tutor.
Happy deep learning ![]()
hi I am a little confused with the pacing in the video and the book, I completed the first video and the first notebook seems to cover a lot and the second video somewhat covers the first notebook itself? how do I pace my learning with videos and notebooks, thanks
