I came across this free book ( https://www.inference.org.uk/itprnn/book.pdf ) which although written 17 years ago has a fascinating part V chapters 38-46 (page 467 - 554 ) which can be read in isolation. It covers Neural Networks. It is interesting how the ideas have been around for a while.
So if you have a spare hour download the book and read part V.
